Change Log
Version 0.1.226, released on 10/23/2026
- Two panes: a plain text editor for the markdown source, and a rendered view you read in your screen reader's browse mode. F6 switches between them, and Enter on a block in the rendered view takes you to that line in the editor.
- The rendered view updates as you type, changing only what changed, so your screen reader keeps its place.
- Tested with NVDA, JAWS and Narrator on Windows, VoiceOver on macOS, and Orca on Linux (x11 and Wayland both). Narrator doesn't work super well with mder, and Orca48 has some rough edges not present in 50.
- Anchor Links within the document, such as to headings, work in the rendered view. For now external links do not.
- Each file opens in its own window. Opening a file that's already open in another mder instance brings its window forward, in the pane you were using.
- Open a file at a line, a heading, or the first match for some text, from the command line. Handy for other programs, and AI coding agents, to show you a spot.
- Tools, Options chooses which pane a file opens in, and allows registering mder in the Open with menu for markdown files. Except on the Mac, where it chooses which file types open in mder.
- If another program changes the file on disk, mder reloads it unless you also edited it in mder and didn't save it yet. If that happens you'll get a prompt where you can choose to keep your edits.
- Portable: settings are kept next to mder when that folder can be written to.
- Note you presently cannot save a fresh document. Only edits to one that was opened from disk. Will fix soon.
